Antonio Maria Lucchini

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antonio Maria Lucchini (also Luchini ; * around 1690 ?; † after 1730) was an Italian librettist .

Life

Lucchini belonged to the Venetian middle class . His first known libretto was performed in 1716 with music by Antonio Lotti . In 1717 Lucchini went to Dresden with Lotti and was employed there as a court librettist. Since Prince Elector Friedrich August II of Saxony did not count him among the first set of librettists, his main task was to write oratorios , serenades and cantatas as well as to edit existing libretti; however, he also wrote two of his own opera texts for Dresden, both of which were set to music by Lotti . Lucchini's stay in Dresden came to an abrupt end when he was embroiled in a woman scandal; he fled back to Italy and wrote seven more librettos for Venice and Rome from 1720 to 1730 .

style

Lucchini's abilities were probably underestimated by Friedrich August II; his style is conventional, but still in keeping with the times.
