Antonio Muttone

Antonio Muttone († 1623 ) was an Italian architect of the early Baroque in Sicily .

According to Maria Giuffrè, Muttone comes from Milan . Nothing is known about his training. In Sicily he designed several major architectural projects, for example from 1590 the construction of the Benedictine monastery of San Martino delle Scale in Monte Cassino near Palermo, from 1598 the religious house of the Congregation of San Filippo Neri (today the Archaeological Museum "Antonio Salinas" ) with the Chiesa Sant ' Ignazio all'Olivella (consecrated in 1622) and the oratorio (both in Palermo), and from 1623 near Calatamuro the monastery of Santa Maria del Bosco of the Olivetan Benedictines.

Even if Muttone was referred to in documents as “caput magister”, as the main master, he seems to have concentrated more on the design of building projects than on concrete building supervision. It is significant that the work “L'Idea della architettura universale” from 1615 by the famous architect Vincenzo Scamozzi (1548–1616) was in his bequest .
