Antonio Nani was born into a modest family in Alano di Piave, but his talent was recognized and promoted by Antonio Canova . This enabled him to take part in courses at the Accademia di belle arti di Venezia . Eventually he was able to open his own workshop on this basis.

Among his best-known works are the 120 portraits of the Doges of Venice , which adorned the work of Emmanuele Antonio Cicogna in the 1847 edition, then numerous vedutas by Treviso or Possagno ; there are also many devotional objects . His last work was the bell tower of his native town Alano di Piave, on which he worked with Giuseppe Segusini , an architect friend from Feltre with whom he had already taken courses at the Venetian Accademia .
