Antonio Petrucci

Antonio Petrucci (born January 1, 1907 in Rome , † September 1, 1981 ibid) was an Italian journalist , screenwriter and film director .

Life

Petrucci spent much of his youth in Sicily; his family, however, comes from Siena. He became interested in journalism and ancient literature at an early age - so he translated some of Silius Italicus' works . For a few years he also wrote film reviews for "Il Tevere", "Bianco e Nero" and later "La Rivista del Cinematografo". From 1933 he was also directly involved in film productions, where he was active as an assistant director , screenwriter and film editor , often for Amleto Palermi . In 1935 he made his debut work as a director, Cinema, che passione! before, but for many years devoted himself exclusively to his task as a critic.

From 1949 to 1953 he directed the Venice International Film Festival ; then he made short films and two full-length feature films. Il matrimonio was based on Anton Chekhov , Cortile was aimed at a young audience and was starred by Eduardo De Filippo . This was followed by documentaries on silent cinema and at the beginning of the Vatican Council in 1962; in between he wrote for Roberto Rossellini .

Petrucci, whose son Giovanni became an actor, made significant contributions to film history with L'avventura del colore 1956, Il cinema oggi in Italia 1959 and Introduzione al cinema 1966.
