Antonio da Ponte (* 1512 in Venice ; † March 22, 1597 ibid) (place of origin Ponte Capriasca  ?), Was a Venetian builder and the uncle of Antonio Contin , the builder of the Bridge of Sighs . He was the official architect of the Provveditori al Sal , which, in addition to the salt monopoly, was also responsible for the care and maintenance of the city's public buildings. He is the architect of the Rialto Bridge . He designed the new prison (together with Zamaria de 'Piombi ) and the new construction of the Cordiere (rope factory) in the arsenal . The Incurabili church designed by him was completely destroyed in the Napoleonic era.
