The Antoniwka Railway Bridge ( Ukrainian Антонівський залізничний міст Antoniwskyj salisnytschnyj crap , Russian Антоновский железнодорожный мост Antonowski schelesnodoroschny most ) is a single-track railway bridge across the Dnieper in the Kherson Oblast in the south of Ukraine .
It connects the left Dneprufer with the right bank south of Ukraine. The Kherson – Kerch railway runs across the bridge .
Geographical location
The bridge is located at river kilometer 43.5 shortly after the mouth of the Inhulez in the Dnieper and six kilometers east of the urban-type settlement Antonivka , after which it was named, belonging to Kherson .
history
Construction of the railway bridge began in 1939, but at the beginning of the German-Soviet War it was interrupted after the first piers were installed. The Germans built a railway bridge a little downstream, which was destroyed again in the war.
A railway regiment familiar with overcoming water barriers was commissioned in 1949 to build the strategically important bridge, which was almost a kilometer long. On December 12, 1954, the railway bridge was put into operation.
