Church building

During excavations in the 1950s, the remains of a church from the 13th century were found; the position at that time was marked with a large cross in the cemetery of today's church. The current church was built in 1437 and shows features of Middle Nordic and late medieval architecture. The building consists of a nave , an armory and a sacristy . The entrance to the church is in the armory. The medieval appearance of the church has been preserved despite several renovations. At the beginning of the 18th century the church got its current pulpit , and in the middle of the century the interior was whitewashed. The appearance of the church was later shaped by Per Zakrisson , a local versatile farmer, carver and builder. The bell stack from 1759 and the sacristy from 1772 are examples of his work.

During painting work in the middle of the 18th century, the murals were covered; during repair work in 1952, they were exposed again, whereby only a small part of the pictures has been preserved. During the restoration work, bread was used as a sponge, as this is a very gentle process.

In front of the stack of bells is a monument that was erected in 1959 to mark the 200th anniversary of the stack and commemorates the work of Zakrisson.
