The Anvil Stacks are two distinctive surf piers ( English stacks ) each in the form of an anvil ( English anvil ) off the south coast of the western end of South Georgia . They are located near the entrance to Elephant Cove .
Their previous name as Elephant Bay Islands comes from seal hunters stationed in South Georgia. They were given their current descriptive name by the South Georgia Survey after a survey between 1951 and 1952.
