Anwar Gargasch

Anwar bin Mohammed Gargasch ( Arabic أنور بن محمد قرقاش, DMG Anwar b. Muḥammad Qarqāš ; * March 28, 1959 in Dubai ) is a politician and Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since February 17, 2008.

education

Gargasch received a bachelor's degree in 1981 and a master's degree in political science from George Washington University in 1984 . He then received his PhD in 1990 from King's College, Cambridge University .

Tasks and Positions

In addition to his office as Foreign Minister, Gargasch holds the following offices:

  • Chairman of the Standing Committee on Monitoring the UAE's Image Abroad, from 2007 to date.
  • Chairman of the National Anti-Trafficking Committee from 2007 to date.
  • Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dubai School of Government, in 2008.
  • Chairman of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation of the Board of Trustees in 1995.
  • Deputy Chairman of the National Standing Committee on Demographic, from 2008 to date.
  • Member of the National Curriculum Development Committee in 2008.
  • Member of the Minister's Legislative Committee in 2006.
  • Member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Nationals Development Program in 2005.
  • Member of the Dubai Economic Council in 2003.

Career

Gargasch began his career as a faculty member at the University of the United Arab Emirates, where he worked from 1985 to 1995.

From 1995 to 1999 he was Managing Editor of the publication Strategic Studies of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) and from 1995 to 2006 he was Chief Executive Officer of Gargash Enterprise .

From August 2006 to February 2007 he was then Chairman of the National Election Committee.

In 2006 he was appointed State Secretary for Affairs of the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates.

On February 17, 2008, he was appointed Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates.
