Recruitment Agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and Greece

The recruitment agreement between the Federal Republic of Germany and Greece was signed on March 30, 1960 ( Adenauer III cabinet ) and led to the start of Greek immigration to the Federal Republic of Germany. The recruited workers were called guest workers in Germany .

According to the recruitment agreement, Greek citizens were granted a permanent residence in the Federal Republic of Germany in order to earn an income. The recruitment agreements with the Federal Republic of Germany were concluded at the initiative of the sending countries to compensate for their current account deficit with the Federal Republic of Germany.

The Federal Republic of Germany concluded similar recruitment agreements with other countries: Turkey , Italy , Yugoslavia , Morocco , Portugal , Spain and Tunisia .
