Anzawa Heijirō

Anzawa Heijirō ( Japanese 安 沢 平 次郎 ; * 1887 ; † 1970 ) is a Japanese master of Honda ryū , student of master Awa Kenzō . He was the first expert in the art to hold demonstrations of his skills outside of Japan .

In Japan, Anzawa Heijirō has a considerable influence on the development of modern Kyūdō, to whose renewal and rediscovery in the sense of the he contributed considerably. He is one of the last great Kyūdō masters (10th Dan) and initiator of Kyūdō in Europe, after he introduced this discipline during a trip to England and Germany in 1969 . His successor in Japan is Suhara Kuon , a Buddhist monk from Enkakuji .
