The Schafsnase apple tree is a Dresden natural monument in the Bühlau district that has been identified as a single tree . The tree, a cultivated apple ( Malus domestica ) of the " Schafsnase " variety , with a trunk circumference of more than 2.40 meters, is an above-average specimen of its kind in Saxony. It is also one of the oldest apple trees in Dresden, in 2012 it was considered “a good hundred years old”.

geography

The tree stands on the private property Grundstrasse 146 ( parcel 297/1, district Bühlau) in the Loschwitz district in the east of Dresden. The location is in the front part of the property, about 10 meters from the sidewalk, in front of the eastern corner of the building (right side of the facade facing the street).

history

The tree probably comes from the end of the 19th century; in the record tree database of the German Dendrological Society , the grafted tree is dated to the year 1892.

Bühlau has been part of the Saxon state capital Dresden as a district since 1921. In 2012, the state capital Dresden, as the lower nature conservation authority, intended to place "39 particularly valuable trees in 29 locations" under protection, including this apple tree "sheep's nose". The designation as a natural monument took place in January 2015 by means of an ordinance. It is the Dresden natural monument 118.

The protection area around the tree extends under the entire crown plus four meters, but at least nine meters from the center of the hollow trunk.
