Apianus is an impact crater in the southern central highlands of the moon . The crater is northeast of Aliacensis and northwest of Poisson . Krusenstern is directly adjacent to the north-western edge .
The outer, in particular the northeast edge of the crater is formed by further impacts and covered with several small crater depressions. The southeast edge shows traces of erosion. The central crater has an average diameter of 63 kilometers and an average depth of 2080 meters. The craters sink at the southeastern edge, Apianus B is part of a group of adjacent valleys, the Apianus T and Apianus U comprise. The inner base of the central crater is almost smooth, slightly convex and without elevation. The flat surface is only broken through by minor impacts.
To Apianus many other craters and crater sinks heard around.
The crater dates from the nectar epoch about 3.92 to 3.85 billion years ago.
Apianus is named after the German Renaissance scholar Petrus Apianus . The name has been officially considered an international standard since 1935 and is registered with the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
