Apiaoeki Tumpa

Apiaoeki Tumpa († March 28, 1892 ) is revered as a folk hero by the Guaraní in Bolivia . He was the leader of the Guaraní uprising in the Bolivian Gran Chaco when they resisted exploitation by the white oligarchy. On January 28, 1892 there was a massacre near Kuruyuky by the army of then President Aniceto Arce, in which over 6000 Guaraní lost their lives and their leader Apiaoeki Tumpa was captured. On March 28 of the same year he was cruelly executed in the main square of Monteagudo ( Departamento Chuquisaca ).
