Dornhaldenfriedhof
The 9 hectare Dornhaldenfriedhof is a cemetery established in Stuttgart-Degerloch in 1974 . It is one of the cemeteries in the forest with a large population of hornbeams , acacias and oaks .
The cemetery is opposite the forest cemetery on the site of the former Dornhalde shooting range of the Royal Garrison Stuttgart, which had nine 400-meter shooting ranges. A few testimonies point to the earlier firing range:
- A forest parcel in the area is called "Schießbahn 10/4".
- The Schießbahnweg forest path begins near the cog railway station and merges into the Dornhaldenweg leading to the Dornhaldenfriedhof.
- Two longitudinal walls of the former firing range can still be seen in the cemetery, which previously served to separate the shooting lanes. The shortened remainder of a wall lies next to the cemetery halls, the other wall, still preserved in its original length, begins near the rifle house and runs to the end of the cemetery.
The cemetery became known in 1977 as the grave of the RAF terrorists Andreas Baader , Gudrun Ensslin and Jan-Carl Raspe , whom the mayor at the time Manfred Rommel had buried there despite protests.
In 1980 the RAF members Juliane Plambeck and Wolfgang Beer who were killed in a car accident were also buried here; whose graves no longer exist today. The RAF member Horst Ludwig Meyer was also buried in the Dornhaldenfriedhof in 1999.
The graves of the following personalities are also located in the Dornhaldenfriedhof:
- Max Bense , philosopher
- Margarete Hannsmann , writer
- Peter O. Chotjewitz , writer
On the northern edge of the Dornhaldenfriedhof is the listed garrison rifle house from 1880 and 1893, which is owned by the city of Stuttgart and housed the canteen and the target workshop of the shooting range of the Royal Garrison Stuttgart in the main building and has been vacant since 2009.
