The company Apikoğlu is a Meatpacking OPERATION family owned, which the Ottoman Empire was founded. The company produces sucuk and pastırma . Apikoğlu is the first facility in Turkey to mass- produce meat products.

Early years

The Apikoğlu company was founded in Kayseri in 1910 by the Armenian Kirkor Apikoğlu (1878–1945). Kirkor Apikoğlu relocated his business to Istanbul in 1920 and opened his production facility in the İdealtepe district of the Maltepe suburb .

Takeover by two brothers

As the business expanded, the company needed more space and in 1966 relocated production to Alibeyköy . The factory in Alibeyköy was run by the two brothers Agop and Hayk Apikoğlu. The Apikoğlu brothers soon sold their products all over Turkey.

Innovations

The patented system of Apikoğlu brothers made it possible in the 1960s, the halal halal produce -Marktfleisch directly from the slaughterhouse of. The technique made the cow hang upside down so that the blood could easily flow out of the body when it was slaughtered. This technique became common practice in Turkey. In order to meet the growing demand, the Apikoğlu brothers increased their number of employees to 200 in 1987. They bought a modern facility with 45,000 m² in Tuzla .

criticism

In 2012, the company was involved in a food scandal when it was found contaminated in its products. The company stated that trust in the brand was above all other interests and that from now on only veal would be used instead of a mixture of veal, chicken and beef.

heritage

In the book Markaların Öyküsü (German The History of Brands ) Apikoğlu is described as "one of the 304 most famous brands in the world".

The Apikoglu brothers are also mentioned in the book Istanbul - Memory of a City by the Turkish author Orhan Pamuk, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature .
