Lurgan ( Irish An Lorgain ) is a town of over 23,000 people in the historic county of Armagh in Northern Ireland .
The place is on the M1 in District Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon on the east edge of Craigavon between Portadown in the west, Moira in the east, Banbridge in the south and Lough Neagh in the north.
The local football club Glenavon FC plays at Mourneview Park Stadium, which has also played a number of international matches.
In the Northern Ireland conflict, the region was the operational area of the Loyalist Volunteer Force , Direct Action Against Drugs and the scene of Five Minutes of Heaven .
