The 17,000 km² Apostolic Prefecture Kiangchow (Latin Apostolica Praefectura Kiangchovensis ) in Xinjiang County (新 绛县, old name: Jiangzhou District 绛州 县) in the district-free city of Yuncheng in Shanxi Province was established on May 25, 1936 and was a mission the Franciscan . In 1949 there were 7,546 Catholics (0.4%) in 5 parishes with 3 diocesan priests , 11 religious priests and 14 religious sisters . The only Apostolic Prefect from 1936 to 1983 was the Franciscan Quintinus Pessers .
