Apostolic Prefecture of Placentia

The Apostolic Prefecture of Placentia ( lat. : Praefectura Apostolica de Placentia ) was one in Canada situated Roman Catholic Apostolic Prefecture , located in Placentia .

history

The establishment took place on September 16, 1870 by Pope Pius IX. with the papal bull Quae Catholicae rei from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Saint John’s . The Archbishop of Saint John's was also Apostolic Prefect of Placentia.

In 1891 it was dissolved and the territory became part of the Archdiocese of Saint John's, Newfoundland.

The area of ​​activity included the Avalon Peninsula and the island of Newfoundland .
