The apartment house Syrotkyna ( Ukrainian Прибутковий будинок Сироткіна , formerly Restaurant Leipzig ) was the tallest building in Kiev when it was completed in 1901 with a height of 42.5 meters and has been an architectural monument since 2011.

The corner building is located in Shevchenko Stadtrajon on 39/24 Volodymyrska Street at the corner of Prorisna Street ( Прорізна вулиця ) near the Golden Gate and the Soloti Vorota Metro Station in the historic city center of the Ukrainian capital.

history

The builder of the apartment house built between 1899 and 1901 by the architect Karl Friedrich Schiermann (Russian: Карл Фридрихович Шиман ) in the Renaissance style was the hunting weapon manufacturer Pyotr Hryhorowytsch-Barskyj, who, however, had to give the building back to the lenders for financial reasons auctioned off to the merchant Olexander Syrotkyn, which is why the house bears this name.

On the ground floor of the building was completed by the in Mikhail Bulgakov's novel The White Guard mentioned Café Marquise and the Soviet period the restaurant Leipzig , was offered exclusively in the German kitchen. In the meantime the house has been extensively renovated and is now a luxury hotel with 150 rooms and 23 suites.
