subjects

The main plot of Aquablue tells the youth of orphan Wilfried Morgenstern, who is the only survivor of the White Star spaceship and grows up on a water planet inhabited by primitive humanoid natives. He is accompanied by his robot nanny Cybot and taken into their midst by the blue natives, where he learns the skills of a fisherman, swimmer and fighter at a superhuman level. When he arrives, he is rescued by a giant manta ray that the islanders worship as a deity. He has his nickname Nao to thank for this happening .

Volumes

Volume 1-5

These issues include the main series, the plot focuses on the fight of the indigenous people against the earth company Texec, which exploits the raw materials and enslaved the population. Texec's energy works are slowly freezing the tropical planet, which would mean death for all living things. Nao tries to prevent this, first with diplomacy, then with open combat. These adventures were written by Thierry Cailleteau and drawn by Olivier Vatine, from volume 4 by Ciro Tota. Splitter Verlag reissued these volumes in February 2018 in Volume 1 of the three-volume complete edition.

Volume 6-7

Both albums deal with the prehistory of the 1st series and introduce new planets and characters into the Aquablue universe. Written and drawn by Ciro Tota.

Volume 8-11

Issues 8-11 tell the aftermath of the main series. The focus is on rebuilding Aquablue, as well as establishing the Aquablue Foundation to protect the planet, its flora and fauna and its inhabitants. Big game hunters exterminating endangered species are a new problem for Nao and his followers. Drawn and written by Stéphane Brangier.

Volume 12-15

The Splitter publishing house published the first part of the sequel to the series at the beginning of April 2013: "Aquablue - New Era: 1. Return to the roots". Drawing styles

Volumes 1–4, which were drawn by Olivier Vatine, are strongly influenced by the Ligne claire , that is, clear lines and no shading.

Ciro Tota is still roughly based on the style of the early series, but is much more realistic and very close to the manga . With Stéphane Brangier, the classic style of Aquablue returns to the series, but uses shades in some places.
