Arçabil (formerly: Firuza ) is a holiday resort in Turkmenistan , near the capital Ashgabat .

location

Arçabil is located about 30 kilometers southwest of the Turkmen capital Ashgabat in the foothills of the Kopet-Dag . The area is characterized by gorges such as the Firuza Gorge or the Chuli Valley . Due to this location, it is often a few degrees cooler in Arçabil than in the capital, Ashgabat, during the hot Turkmen summers.

tourism

Arçabil is one of the most popular destinations for the residents of the capital. The place is dominated by hotels and restaurants, there is also a wellness offer as well as a sanatorium .

The former president of the country, Saparmyrat Nyýazow , also appreciated the amenities of the place and had a presidential residence built here. This is still in use today and ensures strict security measures in and around Arçabil. Traveling by taxi from Ashgabat is prohibited, travelers have to change to vehicles from Arçabil. The Firuza Gorge was partially completely closed to visitors. There is also a large presence of security forces in the place. A new hotel complex is being built in the neighboring town of Gokdere, which is intended to contribute to the development of a new tourist center in this town and thus to replace Arçabil as the main destination in the region.

Most of the buildings in the village are dachas owned by members of the government and civil servants who can spend their free time here. A small military area is also located in the place.

Attractions

In addition to the more bearable temperatures in summer, there are also some sights that attract people to Arçabil:
