Michel Pagel (born October 28, 1961 in Paris ) is a French writer and translator. He is known as the author of science fiction , fantasy and fantastic .

Life

Pagel was born in the 9th arrondissement . When he was a year old, his parents bought a house in the suburbs, where he spent his childhood and youth. His father was an engineer, his mother a housewife, and Pagel grew up in a sheltered middle-class family. When he was four years old, his mother taught him to read and he became a bookworm. He began to write early on. When he ran out of reading material, he wrote short stories in the style of Enid Blyton's Five Friends .

Pagel's first science fiction short , La Roue Kadique , appeared in Espace Temps magazine in 1978 when he was just 16 years old. Pagel then published his first novel Demain matin, au chant du tueur in 1984 in the Anticipation series at Fleuve Noir . Since then he has established himself as an award-winning author of initially science fiction and later predominantly fantasy and horror, whereby Pagel likes to cross genre boundaries and play with genre conventions. This applies in particular to the series La Comédie inhumaine , which is considered to be his main work , a loosely connected series of novels and stories in which he takes up the most varied of characters and subjects from horror literature , transforms them or lets them act in a new context, for example in Désirs cruels , where Pagel lets a modern Lilith tell about her life as Scheherazade .

In addition, Pagel is the translator of over 80 novels and numerous short stories. The authors he has translated include Douglas Adams , JG Ballard , Neil Gaiman , Stephen King , Dean R. Koontz , Rob MacGregor , Michael Moorcock , Peter Straub , David Weber, and David Wingrove . For his translation of Joe Haldeman's The Forever Peace , Pagel was awarded the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire in 2000.

In addition to his real name, Pagel used the pseudonyms Félix Chapel , Mike Nofrost and Pierre-Alexis Orloff , as well as the community pseudonyms Luc Belladonnal , Terence Corman and Don A. Seabury in collaboration with other authors .
