The Ara ( Armenian Արա լեռ ; Russian Ара лер Ara ler ) is an extinct volcano in the Armenian provinces of Aragazotn and Kotajk .

The macaw is located 25 km north of the Armenian capital Yerevan . The Kassagh Gorge runs between the volcanic massif of the Ara and the 20 km northwest of the Aragaz massif, the highest mountain and volcano in Armenia . With a height of 2577  m , the macaw rises about 1500 meters above the south lying Aras plain .
