The Ara AG (proper spelling: ara ) is a German shoe manufacturers and retailers based in Langenfeld . The group (Ara Group) deals with the procurement , production and sale of women's, men's and children's shoes of various brands .

history

The company was founded in 1949 and has been owned by the Röseler family ever since.

In 1997 49.9% of the shares in the Austrian shoe manufacturer Legero were acquired ; the remaining 50.1% remained in the possession of the Stolitzka family.

In 2009, Ara took over Salamander GmbH from the insolvent EganaGoldpfeil and the rights to the cartoon character Lurchi , who was used to advertise Salamander in previous decades.

On May 11, 2010, the long-standing managing partner and CEO of the Ara Group, Robert Röseler, died.

In 2011, Ara took over in addition to the seven branches in Austria (Vienna, Salzburg, Graz and Wels) of the BAWAG the 35 branches of existing customers in Austria, Delka . The Austrian subsidiary is also responsible for the Eastern European countries.

In April 2016, the takeover of Schuhhaus Klauser GmbH & Co. KG and its subsidiary Salamander Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG , which operates the German Salamander branches, was announced by the Prange family of shareholders. Thus, Salamander has been part of Ara since 2016 .

Ara AG is the holding company of the Ara Group . The board consists of Maximilian Müller, Patrick Röseler and Thomas Schmies.

The following major subsidiaries belonged to the Ara Group at the end of 2015:

  • Ara Shoes AG , Langenfeld - women's shoes from the brands Ara and Jenny , men's shoes from the brand Ara men
  • Lloyd Shoes GmbH, Sulingen - men's and women's shoes from the Lloyd brand
  • Salamander GmbH, Langenfeld - retail and wholesale trade with women's and men's shoes from the Salamander brand and children's shoes from the Lurchi brand

In addition, the Austrian Legero Group, in which Ara has a 49.9% stake, was a major associated company. Legero Schuhfabrik GmbH, Graz , deals with casual shoes for women and men as well as children's shoes from the brands Legero , Superfit and Think! .

In 2015, the Ara Group employed almost 8,700 people and generated almost 560 million euros in sales. During the same period, the group companies produced 6.24 million pairs of finished shoes in their own production facilities in Germany, Portugal, Indonesia, Romania, India and the Ukraine. The group also procured around 4 million pairs of shoes from companies outside the group. (each without Legero)
