Ara Bablojan

Ara Saeno Bablojan ( Armenian Արա Բաբլոյան , born May 5, 1947 in Yerevan ) is an Armenian pediatrician , politician, member of the Republican Party of Armenia and President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia since May 2017 .

Career

Bablojan graduated from the Pediatric Faculty of Yerevan State Medical University in 1971 . Between 1971 and 1998 he did further training and retraining in the field of pediatric surgery , kidney and liver transplantation in Russia , Belgium , Switzerland and France .

From 1972 to 1982 Bablojan worked as a surgeon and urologist in Children's Hospital No. 1, then until 1990 as head of the urological department of Children's Hospital No. 3 in Yerevan. From 1991 to 1997 he was Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

From 1997 to 2002 Bablojan held the position of manager of the “Arabkir” children's clinic in Yerevan. In 2003 he was accepted into the permanent commission of the European Regional Committee of the World Health Organization , in which he was represented until 2005. He was also a member of the executive body of this specialized agency of the United Nations (2008–2012). Between 2003 and 2007, Bablojan was also chairman of the board of directors of the insurance company "Garant Limens".

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, Bablojan was elected as a candidate for the Republican Party in the Armenian National Assembly. He repeated this success in the next elections in 2012. During this period he held the post of Chairman of the "Standing Committee on Health, Maternity and Childhood". On May 18, 2017, MPs elected Bablojan President of the National Assembly.

Private

Bablojan is married with two children and four grandchildren.
