Araranguá , officially Município de Araranguá , is a city in the state of Santa Catarina in southern Brazil .
The population was estimated on July 1, 2018 at 67,578 inhabitants who live in an area of 303.2 km². The population density is 202 people per km².
The city is the district capital. It is located in the south of Santa Catarina and is dominated by mainly Italian immigrants. Vineyards and thermal springs can be found in and around Araranguá.
The Rio Araranguá flows into the sea about 10 km from the outskirts . At the beginning of the 20th century coal was mined here .
