The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Verkehrserzieher e. V. (ADV) was a non-profit association that aimed to promote traffic education and traffic information. Her most important project was the “Youth Traffic Badge” program with 13 test and control sheets for the entire school period. Most of the members of the ADV were teachers . The ADV was founded in 1971 and dissolved in 2008.

history

The idea of the ADV was born in 1950. Teachers who survived WWII and returned home wanted to show themselves thankful and do something good. They wanted to reduce the dramatic increase in the number of accidents due to the start of motorization and thus avert a lot of suffering. In 1951 the youth league for road safety was founded as the predecessor of the ADV. Their aim was to reduce the number of accidents, accident prevention and traffic education for schoolchildren. The patron was the Federal Minister of Transport, Hans-Christoph Seebohm .

founding

The ADV was founded on November 30, 1971 by members of the Youth League for Road Safety. 1st chairman: Günter Kortstock (he remained first chairman and managing director until his death in 2004) 2nd chairman: Paul Godzik 3rd chairman: Othmar Altmann

Purpose of the association

Promotion of traffic education and information as well as accident prevention from pre-school to the end of school and in the extracurricular area.

Youth traffic badge

A traffic education program from pre-school to the end of school. The trial phase for the beginnings of the youth traffic badge began as early as 1967 in Lower Saxony with 10,000 students, was led by Günter Kortstock and ran for 3 years.

In the test regions, the number of children killed in traffic fell by up to 36% and injured children by up to 13%, while the number of accidents involving children in the rest of Germany rose by 10 to 13%. Confirmed by these positive results, the test sheets for the youth traffic badge and the teacher leaflets were developed by members of the ADV.
