Working group for child and youth protection in North Rhine-Westphalia
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Kinder- und Jugendschutz (AJS) Landesstelle Nordrhein-Westfalen eV was founded in 1953 as an action youth protection Landesarbeitsstelle NRW based in Cologne . Since 1992, the working group has also been running the Information and Documentation Center Sects / Psychocults (IDZ). Similar communities also exist in other federal states.
The working group is funded by the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration NRW through the Child and Youth Promotion Plan NRW. The members are the central associations of welfare and child and youth welfare, educational professional associations as well as parents and family associations.
tasks
The main task of the working group is to promote the legal and educational protection of children and young people in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Further main tasks are
- the prevention of delinquency, violence and addiction and the prevention of sexual violence
- the juvenile or Jugendmedienschutz
- the education about the youth protection act
- the operation of the local information and documentation center sects / psychocults (IDZ)
- the preparation of expert reports and opinions for politics and administration
In addition, the working group maintains an information service. The AJS Forum has been published quarterly for 32 years.
Information and documentation center sects / psychocults
The Information and Documentation Center Sects / Psychocults (IDZ) was founded in 1984 as an institution of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 1992 the IDZ was incorporated into the Working Group on Children and Youth Protection (AJS) Landesstelle NRW eV based in Cologne.
The information and documentation center, which is funded by the State Ministry for Generations, Family, Women and Integration , is not subject to any ideological or religious institution. It advises and informs.
Tasks of the IDZ
One of the tasks of the IDZ is to collect and evaluate information about sects , psychocults, esotericism , satanism and occultism . IDZ makes the information collected available to all inquirers. In addition, the IDZ publishes brochures and information materials, organizes events for multipliers and arranges contacts for those affected.
Model project of the IDZ
In the years 2000–2003 the IDZ was involved in a model project of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) with the aim of qualifying employees of psychosocial counseling centers for counseling tasks on prevention in the area of "sects and psycho-groups" .
Board
The board of the working group consists of nine members. Jürgen Jentsch is the chairman . Further members are Karla Etschenberg , Joachim Faulde, Wilfried Ferchhoff, Wilhelm Müller, Michael Schöttle, Gabriele Surek and Ulrike Werthmanns-Reppekus. In addition, a representative from the Ministry for Children, Family, Refugees and Integration NRW and the Ministry for School and Education NRW is a co-opted member of the board.
Protection of minors in NRW
In 2003, the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia commissioned the working group for child and youth protection with the evaluation of the youth protection law and the youth media protection treaty in the ordinance on responsibilities under the youth protection law . In 2007, the implementation instructions for the Youth Protection Act prepared by the AJS were published for the implementation of the statutory child and youth protection in North Rhine-Westphalia.
