The Working Group of Archives and Libraries in the Evangelical Church (AABevK) is a legally not independent institution of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). The founding assembly passed a statute on November 22, 1979 in Hanover. The working group consists of 62 archives and around 100 evangelical libraries. The chair of the working group is Bettina Wischhöfer , Landeskirchliches Archiv Kassel .
tasks
One of the tasks of the working group is to clarify fundamental questions, to publish scientifically, to provide expert opinions and to maintain an exchange of experiences. Church archives and ecclesiastical libraries are to be presented to the public across the region; connections to other institutions and associations of the same nature are to be maintained.
structure
The working group is an association of institutions. It is divided into the Association of Church Archives and the Association of Church Scientific Libraries , in which the technical work takes place. The member institutions are usually legally dependent. The representatives of the carriers of the archives and libraries form the department and speaker group in the working group. They advise the associations on legal issues. The board leads the working group and draws up the budget. It consists of the chairperson, the head of the Association of Church Archives and two deputies, the head of the Association of Church-Academic Libraries and two deputies, as well as the spokesperson for the legal departments and speakers and two representatives.
history
In August 1936, the first meeting of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Landeskirchlicher Archivare” (ALA) took place in Bonn. In 1956 there was a breakdown into the sections of archivists and librarians. In 1961, the "Working Group for Archives and Libraries in the Protestant Church" was formed - initially as a personal association within the EKD. After the foundation of the Federation of Evangelical Churches (BEK) in the GDR , the East German members came together in 1970 to form the “Working Group for Church Archives and Libraries”. At the end of 1990 the two institutions were united in an extraordinary general meeting in Bebra.
