from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The working group for comparative high mountain research e. V. (also ARGE for comparative high mountain research ) is a Munich- based association of scientists who are active in high mountain research .

The association was founded in 1965 by the biologist Walter Hellmich . The occasion was a research project funded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation in the southern Himalayas, from which an extensive set of maps of eastern nepal emerged (because of Erwin Schneider's involvement , they are colloquially known as the Schneider maps ).

The purpose of the association is to promote science and research in relation to the mountain regions of the world. An interdisciplinary approach is followed. The association makes contributions to mountain research by participating in the publication of relevant books and maps and by sponsoring or organizing conferences.
