Arbogast from Andlau
Arbogast von Andlau (* 1550 ; † January 5, 1612 ) was Großbailli from 1601 to 1607, from 1607 to 1612 Grand Prior of the German Order of St. John and Prince of Heitersheim .
Life and career
Arbogast von Andlau was born in 1550 as the son of the imperial councilor and governor in Alsace, Hans von Andlau and his wife Ursula von Eptingen. On October 31, 1571 he entered the Order of St. John in Malta . After the usual religious service, he was accepted into the Consiglio compito on October 24, 1573 as a council of the German language . In 1577 he received the Kommenden Tobel (Switzerland) and Feldkirch (Austria), which he owned until 1604, almost as a salary. In 1580 he became commander of the Johanniterkommende Tobel (Switzerland), which he had to give up again in 1590 under pressure from the Catholic cantons of Switzerland. In 1593 he received the Kommende Freiburg im Üechtland . From May 1598 to August 1599 he was titular Bailli of Brandenburg, and then titular prior of Dacien (until March 1601). On March 31, 1601, he was elected Grand Bailli, and on May 10, 1607, Grand Prior of Germany. From then on he resided as imperial prince in Heitersheim . As a grand prior, he was also commander of the Kommende Bubikon ( Canton of Zurich , Switzerland). He died on January 5th, 1612 in Heitersheim.
