Amerang Castle Arboretum
The Amerang Castle Arboretum in Amerang has existed at Amerang Castle in the Upper Bavarian district of Rosenheim since 1889 . The municipality of Amerang, as sponsor of the measure, took on the planning and execution and organized the ongoing maintenance of the exotic and natural forest with the support of the Crailsheim family and the Förderverein Schloss Amerang e. V.
Conception
The conception of the arboretum was created by the architect Sepp Gießibl († 2011) in cooperation with the Crailsheim family with the technical support of the Office for Agriculture and Forests Rosenheim (Georg Kasberger and Ferdinand Weber). With the support of the EU Leader + program, the existing arboretum is prepared professionally and didactically.
In Amerang has been found that the Japanese cedar ( Chryptomeria japonica ), the most important forest tree of Japan was able to develop very well in the last 30 years. Something similar was also found in the hemlock ( Tsuga heterophylla ) and the giant tree of life ( Thuja plicata ).
Location
The path on the Schlossbach continues under the railway viaduct to the Freimoos landscape protection area, where it connects to the hiking and cycling network of the “ Chiemgau Lake District ”. The road access is via the existing access road to Amerang Castle. Access is south of the farm building in front of the castle or from the parking lot at the exit from Amerang to Halfing . The approximately three hectare Ameranger Arboretum was created on the southwest slope around the castle. Around 100 tree species from all over the world are represented here. To the north is a natural, 150-year-old mixed forest, from which no more wood has been removed for several decades.
