Arcane Voidsplitter is a drone doom project founded by Stijn van Cauter in 2017 .
history
Van Cauter founded Arcane Voidsplitter in 2017 as a diverse side project apart from his main project Until Death Overtakes Me . In an interview from 2018 he explained that all of these projects were the result of simple sound experiments and no major plans. Meanwhile, he admitted that Arcane Voidsplitter was one of the projects he enjoyed the most and that this was one of those projects, along with other projects, that he believed would last longer. In another interview he described the music by Arcane Voidsplitter as the best material he had produced up to then.
The debut album To Reach Beyond was released in 2017 as a download from van Cauter's label Void OVerflow, a continuation of Nulll Records . A second album followed in March 2019 with Voice of the Stars , which van Cauter released as a physical release in cooperation with the British label Aesthetic Death Records . Voice of the Stars received a positive international response and was praised by reviewers as one of Van Cauter's best publications.
style
The instrumental project Arcane Voidsplitter is described by the musician and the publishing labels as a cosmic concept band, in whose sound “the roar of the stars is reflected by the limits of reality”. Van Cauter describes the music as a mixture of Funeral Doom , Ambient and Drone Doom. To further describe it, he created the term space drone and described the music as “elongated pieces”. The music is described in reviews as "extremely minimalist " as well as "completely unique [...]". Accordingly, comparisons with other artists are hardly attempted. Only well-known drone artists such as Sunn O))) and Earth are categorized.
Critics also emphasize the cosmic aspect of the music and describe the conveyed atmosphere as a calming “space-ambient feeling”, which however is “difficult to digest” because of the “extreme length”. The music is presented as “oversized drone songs on the subject of space. Made with guitars and analog synthesizers. ”This would create a sonic representation of the cosmos. For example, van Cauter combines ambient sounds recorded on the keyboard with the heavy guitar playing of Drone Doom.
