Archaeological Museum Gablingen
The Archaeological Museum Gablingen is an archaeological museum in the municipality of Gablingen in the Swabian district of Augsburg .
The museum houses numerous finds that were excavated and restored by the working group for prehistory and early history of the Augsburg district . The finds were recovered during construction work and in gravel pits in the district. The museum, which opened at the beginning of March 1999, was housed in the community-owned rooms of the Reinschhof until 2011, since then in the Gablingen primary school.
The chronologically structured exhibition ranges from the Middle Stone Age to the Bronze and Iron Ages and the Roman Age to the early Middle Ages , with a focus on the presentation of regional history. The cultural and economic development of the people through the various epochs can be read and illustrated by the large number of finds. The highlights of the exhibition include finds from a burial ground from the time of the bell-cup near Biberbach , including rich additions from former princely graves. In addition, there are some finds and grave goods from the younger Stone Age made of silver and gold.
The development of the medieval castles of the Augsburg district is shown in a separate room. Numerous replicas of historical castles and civil settlements were made especially for the museum.
