The Archaeological Museum of Villena in the southeastern Spanish city of Villena is located on the ground floor of the local town hall (Casa Consistorial) .

history

The museum, inaugurated in 1957, mainly houses the archaeological collection of José María Soler García, which was assembled in the Comarca Alto Vinalopó in the first half of the 20th century .

Numerous small stone tools date from the Paleolithic and Neolithic . However, the real treasures of the museum originated in the Bronze Age and Iberian Period .

  • The Tesorillo de Cabezo Redondo consists of around 30 gold objects such as rings , bracelets, etc., which were probably given to a high-ranking woman as grave goods .
  • The Tesoro de Villena is much more extensive ; it consists mainly of gold, hallmarked bowls, but there are also bracelets and bronze and gold vases among them .
  • The stone sculpture of the Dama de Caudete can be attributed to the Iberian culture .
  • The Arracada de la Condomina , an earring from the 4th century BC , is particularly finely crafted and has 16 small spirals in the center . Chr.

Terra sigillata ceramics, amphorae and coins date from Roman times . Small ceramics with a cobalt blue glaze should be mentioned from the Moorish times .
