Archambaud II (Périgord)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Archambaud II. Talleyrand († 1239 ) was a Count of Périgord from the House of Périgord . He was a son of Count Elias VII († after 1204) and his wife Margaret, a daughter of Vice Count Adémar V of Limoges .

In 1212 Archambaud made the feudal oath ( homagium ) to King Philip II in Nemours , with which he affirmed the direct vassal relationship to the French crown established by his father in 1204. The then Duke of Aquitaine , Johann Ohneland , accepted this act after his defeats at Roche-aux-Moines and Bouvines and the subsequent contractual agreement with the King of France in 1214.

Archambaud joined the barons' crusade in 1239 under the leadership of Count Theobald IV of Champage (Theobald of Navarre) and died that same year.

He was married to a woman whose name was unknown and with whom he had three children:

Individual evidence

  1. Archambaud II. Carries his ordinal number due to the dynastic continuity, taking into account his uncle Archambaud I. However, whether this was ever officiated as Count of Périgord cannot be clearly identified from the source.
  2. Catalog des actes de Philippe Auguste , ed. by Léopold Delisle (1856), no.1409, p. 320
  3. His death was noted on September 15, 1239 by the Bishop of Périgueux (BnF, Collection Périgord , Vol. 78, fol. 13). The crusade reached the Holy Land in Acre on September 1, 1239, which is why Archambaud may have died there.
