Archias (Oikist)
Archias ( Greek Ἀρχίας ), son of Euagetes, was, according to ancient history , the founder ( Oikistes ) of Syracuse from Corinth .
Archias was considered a descendant of Heracles , so was Heraklid . In 733 BC After consulting the Delphic Oracle in Sicily, he founded the city of Syracuse. The reason was an atonement to be made for the death of Action, son of Melissus, whom Archias had pursued. When he was unsuccessful with his advertising, he tried to hijack Aktion. In the scuffle that was triggered, the act was killed. Accused by Melissus and heard by Poseidon , the plague came over the city and, according to the oracle, could only be ended by Archias' exile. Archias left Corinth, founded Syracuse after a long sea voyage and became the father of two daughters, Ortygia and Syrakusa, before a certain Telephos, to whom he had long had a love affair, murdered him.
