Archibald Johnstone

Archibald Hynd (Archie) Johnstone (born June 12, 1924 in Burlington , Prince Edward Island , † November 8, 2014 in Kensington ) was a Canadian businessman and politician .

Life

Johnstone was born to Lieutenant Colonel Ernest W. Johnstone and his wife Jane Montgomery. He was a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Air Force's heavy bomb squadron during World War II. Johnstone attended Prince of Wales College, Ontario Technical College, and Nova Scotia Agricultural College, and also studied in Europe in 1955.

Together with his father, he built the Woodleigh Replicas miniature park in Burlington after the war and became president of the Prince Edward Island Federation of Agriculture and director of the island's tourism organization.

On March 6, 1998 he was appointed to the Senate on the recommendation of Jean Chrétien and represented Prince Edward Island there. He served in the Senate for the Liberal Party of Canada until his retirement on his 75th birthday on June 12, 1999 .

Archibald Johnstone was married with three sons and a daughter.
