Archibald Gavin Hamilton, Baron Hamilton of Epsom , PC (born December 30, 1941 ) is a British Conservative Party politician .

Youth and education

Hamilton is the second son of John Hamilton, 3rd Baron Hamilton of Dalzell and younger brother of James Hamilton, 4th Baron Hamilton of Dalzell . He was born at Beckington Castle , Beckington , Somerset , his parents' country house. He went to Eton College .

Political career

Hamilton was a Member of the House of Commons for the constituency of Epsom and Ewell from 1978 to 2001 . He was junior minister in the Department of Defense from 1986 to 1993 and later became chairman of the 1922 committee . He was also one of the earliest members of the Monday Club and in 1996 chaired its defense policy group. On May 13, 2005 it was announced that he would be promoted to Life Peer ; on June 17, 2005 he became Baron Hamilton of Epsom , of West Anstey in the County of Devon .

Personal

Lord Hamilton is a bridge player. He is a member of the Lords bridge team and the All Party Parliamentary Bridge Group.
