Archos SA is a French manufacturer of tablet computers , smartphones , notebooks and computer peripherals listed in the CAC Small . Products also include external hard drives and portable media players . The company is based in Igny near Paris .

Company history

Archos SA was founded in 1988 by Henri Crohas , who is also the largest shareholder with 35% of the capital. The company initially sold memory cards before concentrating on developing portable MP3 players in the late 1990s . With the Jukebox 6000, the company offered the first MP3 player with an integrated hard drive. After initial growth, the company has after the launch of the Apple - iPod gain any significant market share more.

From 2009 Archos developed tablet computers and now also smartphones with the Android operating system. Since then, the company has been able to massively increase its sales again. In the 2011 financial year it doubled compared to the previous year to EUR 171 million.

The company's products are developed in development centers in France , Germany and China .
