Aren Maeir
Aren M. Maeir (born March 18, 1958 in Rochester , NY ) is an Israeli archaeologist .
Life
Maeir emigrated to Israel with his family in 1969, where he served in the Israeli army between 1977 and 1982 . He then studied archeology and Jewish history at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .
He is an expert on the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Eastern Mediterranean and took part in various excavations there.
His main interest is in the Tell es-Safi excavation project southeast of Ashdod . There he directs the excavations. He currently teaches at Bar Ilan University .
