Argopistes bosi is a species of the genus Argopistes within the flea beetles , which are assigned to the leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae). The species was described in 2011 by Lev N. Medvedev using a collection of beetles in a forest area on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi .

features

Argopistes bosi is a beetle with a body length of 3.5 millimeters and an almost round body, the length is 1.1 times the width. It is red to reddish yellow in color and the legs, antennae and the belly are reddish yellow. The head is smooth and shiny and has fine dots. The frontal tubercle is large and triangular, it covers almost the entire fron and is thus about as wide as half the diameter of the eye. The antenna consists of 11 members and extends into the front third of the elytra , the pre-apical segment is 1.5 times as long as it is wide.

The prothorax is 2.1 times as long as it is wide, the front edge is almost straight, and the sides are slightly curved. The front corners are broadly rounded, the rear corners blunt and the rear edge clearly curved. The surface of the prothorax is smooth and finely dotted, with a clearly separated and concave callus on the side edge. The scutellum is small, triangular, and smooth. The elytra are 1.1 times as wide as they are long. They are covered with even and fine rows of dots, the spaces in between are smooth, flat and provided with individual dots. The widened side edge corresponds to about a third of the width of the elytra, it narrows slightly to the rear and is strongly dotted. The apical tooth of the metatibia is pointed and almost as long as the spur. The shape of the Aedeagus is species-specific and particularly striking . It is constricted twice in the front third and there is a sharp edge on the belly side that separates the two constrictions.

Distribution and way of life

There is no information about the way of life of the species. The holotype was collected from a collection after foliage fumigation in a primary forest area in the west of the Lore Lindu National Park in the center of the island of Sulawesi , about 120 kilometers south of Palu . The area is about 800 to 1000 meters above sea level.

Systematics

Argopistes bosi was described as a separate species of the genus Argopistes within the flea beetle (Alticini). The first describer Lev N. Medvedev named it after the collector of the holotype, the Dutch zoologist Merijn M. Bos, whom he named in the holotype description as MM Bos and in the honor as B. Bos from Berlin.
