List of domestic dogs

The Ariégeois is an FCI recognized dog breed from France ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.2, Standard No. 20 ). Outside of France, this breed is rarely kept.

Origin and history

The dog breed Ariégeois is also called the hare dog, derived from its special field of application. The Braque de l'Ariège , a pointing dog, is very similar ; it is often confused with the Ariégeois. The Ariégeois comes from a cross between large hounds and briquets in order to bring out their advantages and to avoid their defects. Among others, Grand Bleu de Gascogne and Grand Gascon Saintongeois were crossed . The origin of the breed is in the French province of Ariège in the southwest of France.

description

The dog is used for shotgun hunting and for parforce hunting . Its medium size (58 cm) and its light structure make it a valuable assistant, whether as a single dog or in a pack; light, medium-sized dog, elegant and distinguished. The hair is short, thin, and thick in white with clear, well-defined black spots; sometimes stippled black; rather pale tan markings on the cheeks and over the eyes. He appears very muscular, the chest is long and moderately wide; it reaches down to elbow level. The ears are leather-like, supple, folded and drooping long, narrow at the base and set just below the eye line. As can be seen from the description, it is a high-legged dog, very similar to large running dogs . It is typical that the lips do not hang over the lower jaw. The body is well adapted to hunting rabbits with a broad, oval chest that reaches to the elbows. Well set, saber-shaped tail.

use

Specialized for hare hunting, it is suitable for all types of hunting.
