Aria den Arend

Arie den Arend (born February 3, 1903 in Pernis , Netherlands , † February 22, 1982 in Rotterdam ) was a Dutch composer .

At the age of 10 he received organ lessons from the local organist in the church named A. Noordzij . At the age of 13 he became a member of the local Concordia brass orchestra and learned the euphonium . At the age of 17 he became the conductor of the neighboring music association Door Eendracht Sterk in Hoogvliet , Netherlands. During this time he privately studied harmony , composition and organ with JG van Herwaarden in Rotterdam . In 1930 he became organist at the Reformed Church in Pernis and he was meanwhile the conductor of 5 wind orchestras or fanfare orchestras. In 1950 he founded a youth orchestra out of two of his orchestras and composed the first pieces for this new group. This youth wind orchestra made an appearance on the radio, during which, of course, his works were also heard. This led to a contact with a well-known music publisher who encouraged him to write further pieces for wind orchestra or fanfare orchestra. This even led to composition commissions from the Dutch government in 1976 Lidama and 1979 Prelude en improvisatie .

On April 24, 1959, he was made a Knight of the Order of Orange Nassau by the Queen of the Netherlands .
