Arif Sağ

Arif Sağ (* 1945 in Dalli, Aşkale district , Erzurum province , Turkey ) is a Turkish- Alevi singer and politician.

Arif Sağ took his first musical steps at an early age when he discovered the Türkü (traditional Turkish folk songs) at the age of three to four . Up until the age of 14, he continued to develop his basic knowledge to become an Aşık (traditional singer who accompanies himself on the saz ).

His professional career began between 1960 and 1970. His first record "Gafil gezme şaşkın bir gün Ölürsün" was made in 1963. In 1965 he went to the Istanbul radio station as a baglama player. In 1975 he got a job as a professor at the National Conservatory of Turkish Music in Istanbul ( Istanbul Devlet Türk Müziği Conservatuarı ), only to leave it in 1982 and found his own school, the "Arif Sağ Music House" (Arif Sağ müzik evi).

In 1982 he gave his first “bağlamarécital” in the “San tiyatrosu” theater in Istanbul. Tours and concerts in Europe and Japan followed, including a concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Cologne in 1996 and a tour with the guitarist Tomatito through twelve European cities in 2000.

On July 2, 1993 he took part in the Pir Sultan Abdal Festival in Sivas with his wife Yildiz Sağ . Both survived the arson attack on the Madimak Hotel .

Sağ has also worked with other Aşıks, including Musa Eroğlu , Muhlis Akarsu and Yavuz Top . He is the composer of a “Concerto for Bağlama” and created the “ Arabesque ingenuity ” style in Turkey. With colleagues like Erdal Erzincan and Erol Parlak organized a tour through Europe. He also played in the big concerts "The Night of 1000 Guitars" and "The Night of 2000 Guitars".

Arif Sağ is married and has two children. His son Tolga Sağ (1973) is also a well-known baglama player.
