Muhlis Akarsu
Muhlis Akarsu (born 1948 in Kangal , Sivas , Turkey ; died July 2, 1993 in Sivas , murdered) was a Turkish baglama player and singer. Akarsu was one of the most famous representatives of Alevi music, the main instrument of which is the Bağlama (Saz). The musician recorded records with Arif Sağ , Musa Eroğlu , Yavuz Top and Aşık Mahzuni Şerif , among others . His most famous album was "Sivas Ellerinde Ömrüm Calınır". In 1972 he married the daughter of Seyyit Halil Çiftlik, Muhibe Leyla Akarsu .
On July 2, 1993, Muhlis Akarsu and his wife took part in the Pir Sultan Abdal Festival with many other Alevis . An angry crowd of religious extremists set fire to the hotel. Muhlis Akarsu and his wife were killed in this arson attack on the Madımak Hotel . His music is still heard and used in the Alevi culture today. When Muhlis Akarsu and Muhibe Akarsu died in the fire, they left three daughters behind. The youngest daughter was disabled and was looked after by her two siblings.
In 2007 the melody of his song "Allah Allah Desem Gelsem" was used by the American producer Timbaland for the song "Wait For You" on the album "Loose" by Nelly Furtado . The album was sold over five million times.
