Arima Onsen (Japanese 有 馬 温泉arima onsen ) is a place in Kita-ku, Kobe , Japan . Due to its many onsen (hot springs) and ryokan (Japanese 旅館) (traditional Japanese hotels) and the convenient location on the other side of the Rokkō mountain range (Japanese 六甲 山) in the north of Kobe, it is a popular destination for tourists from Kobe and Osaka . As one of the oldest and most famous onsen in Japan, it has long been valued by the imperial family .

Arima Onsen is over 1300 years old and is considered one of the oldest beach resorts in Japan, alongside Dōgo Onsen , Ehime Prefecture and Shirahama Onsen , Wakayama Prefecture . In Nihonshoki (Japanese 日本 書 紀), one of the oldest Japanese historical works, Arima Onsen is dated back to the mythological age of the gods. Many Japanese rulers and historical figures highly valued the place and often visited it or even lived there for a while.

There are mainly two types of special spring water in Arima. These so-called kinsen (Japanese 金泉, "golden water") and ginsen (Japanese 銀泉, "silver water") contain minerals and acids that the water u. a. give the eponymous colors. The spring water is also said to have positive effects on the body and health. Kinsen contains high amounts of salt and iron and is said to be a. have a positive effect on arthritis and care for the skin. Ginseng is said to stimulate the circulation, strengthen the immune system, relax muscles and, if inhaled, alleviate the symptoms of bronchial diseases.
