Aristide Antonas
Aristide Antonas (* 1963 in Athens ) is a Greek architect , philosopher and author . He is Professor of Architectural Theory and Design at the Volos School of Architecture at the University of Thessaly .
life and work
Aristide Antonas was born into a family of architects. His parents are the architects Suzana and Dimitris Antonakakis, both representatives of critical regionalism .
He studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and received his PhD in philosophy from the University of Paris-Nanterre in 1993 with a thesis on Jan Patočka's phenomenology , which he subjected to a deconstructivist analysis with Jacques Derrida's thinking. He has been Professor of Architectural Design and Theory at the University of Thessaly since 2012 . Antonas was visiting professor a. a. at the Free University of Berlin and at the renowned The Bartlett School of Architecture in London . He gave lectures at numerous universities in Germany and abroad.
Antonas develops innovative architectural projects with a philosophical and utopian content. Antonas is also the author of several essays and two plays that have been performed in theaters in Greece, France, Sweden and Portugal. Speculative projects in the urban as well as in the landscape and thought experiments are the focus of his work, which are influenced by poststructuralist and deconstructive philosophies. As a curator and as an artist, his works have been represented at numerous exhibitions and biennials (including the Landscape Biennial of Barcelona , Istanbul Design Biennale, Venice Architecture Biennale , Sáo Paolo Architecture Biennale ). Antonas showed the works The Structure of Revenge and Empty University at documenta 14 . Antonas also runs the Antonas Office architecture firm with offices in Athens and Berlin.
