Aristonothos was a Greek potter in the 7th century BC. BC, it is often assumed from Euboia . He is the earliest potter known by name today. His signature has been preserved on a crater from Caere (now in Rome, Museo Capitolini, Castellani Collection 172), on which the blinding of Polyphemus and a naval battle are depicted. Because of the location of the crater it was previously assumed that he worked in Italy, but the shape and appearance of the signature speak against it, the font used is Ionic.
